Ah, summer–the perfect time to grab you swimsuit & flip flops and hit the beach. What better place to unwind than at a gorgeous lake house? Michiganders have pretty much perfected the art of going “up north” and while it’s hard to compete with a cottage near the Great Lakes, these lake houses are enough to make anyone swoon.

1. Alright, well, technically this is a castle but we wanted to start this list off with a bang. Situated on Lake Annecy in the Haute-Savoie region of France, this lake house (or should we say, lake castle) is pretty much straight out of a fairy tale. Just imagine opening up your bedroom window to a view of those quiet waters & lush green hills. This castle definitely makes us want to pack a picnic of some Rosé & cheese and brush up on our langue française. If you’ve got a touch of the travel bug, turns out you can find Lake Annecy rentals on Airbnb and VRBO. Or, if you’re like us, you can transform your bedroom into that hidden oasis you’ve always dreamed of.

 

 

2. Slightly less elaborate yet still wildly captivating, this lake house arrives on our list at number two. While we aren’t sure where this little beauty calls home, we’re really hoping it’s somewhere in America because we would LOVE to visit. Imagine spending a weekend holed up in this charming country home nestled between rolling hills and wide-open fields. Sounds like a dream, right? There’s something so freeing about a view that’s not tainted with big buildings and busy streets, though we seriously love city life. If you know who owns this lovely little plot of land, please let us know!

 

 

3. Coming in at number three is this seriously stunning beauty. Can you just imagine?! Again, we’d love to know where this gal resides because this lake house is quite the show-stopper. From it’s utterly water-surrounded island-like location to its perfect trees & foliage, this lake house seems more like a dream than reality. If being that remote doesn’t turn you off, we can definitely picture sipping margaritas on the front porch while passing the time zenned-out by the waves. Hand us a row-boat; we’re paddling in!

 

 

4. Let’s just pause and take a moment to enjoy the wonder that is this lake house. Situated on Lac La Hache in British Columbia, this home definitely speaks to a more rustic, one-with-the-land, kind of feel. For what it lacks in modern aesthetic, this home is definitely what we’d expect in the recreational land of our northern friends. Perhaps its simplistic nature is what attracts us the most. We can imagine cozying up on the porch with a flannel blanket, a good book and a gaggle of girlfriends for a weekend getaway. The gorgeous lake-views and sprawling hillside don’t hurt, either.

 

 

5. And lastly, our list just wouldn’t be complete without this wonder. Where is it, you ask? Bavaria, perhaps? The Swiss Alps? Wherever this little gem is, we’d definitely be thrilled for a visit. There’s something so incomprehensibly lovely about being surrounded with pristine aquamarine-colored water & lush draping trees.
