Decorating your Coffee Table
If you’re like most home-owners/renters in America, chances are your home has a living room or family room that you and your loved ones frequent regularly. Traditionally, the living or family room holds any combination of couches, loveseats, conversation chairs, and of course, the coffee table. We love coffee tables! They’re so functional and can double as extra seating in a pinch. They house our magazines, books, homework, mugs, plates, pens, crochet needles, sticky notes, photos and so much more. After a while, the coffee table begins to become a catch-all for everyday life. In this blog we’ll offer some tips on how to decorate your coffee table.
Coffee Table Decor
It can often be challenging to decorate a coffee table because you might not be sure what’s too much or too little. We’re happy to say that the sky’s the limit when it comes to your coffee table! But, before you begin, take a step back and look at the overall theme of your space. Is your living room formal? Is your family room casual? Where is the coffee table in relation to large pieces like an entertainment center and built-in shelving? What is the color scheme of the room? And perhaps most importantly, what’s your style? The beautiful thing about decorating a coffee table is that you aren’t limited to one look. You can play around with funky pieces that you’d otherwise be too cautious to hang on the walls or throw on the bed. Notice the photos of various coffee tables on the right. Is your coffee table square, circular, or rectangular? Will it double as additional seating? Once you determine how your coffee table needs to work in the space you can start decorating it with your favorite pieces. We love using books to create a multi-dimensional visual aid. By pairing items with books underfoot, you add interesting heights that are eye-catching and fun. As always, you can’t go wrong with flowers and candles. We love using mirrored trays like in the photo above. Something about a mirror is so glamorous and chic–what’s not to love?!
We also suggest playing with textures when decorating your coffee table. Choosing a tufted ottoman in place of a traditional coffee table adds just a touch of luxury to your space. At Home Interior Warehouse many of our pieces can be customized completely to your liking. If you prefer upholstered pieces we can help you find the perfect look for your space that will complement your existing decor. Your coffee table is essentially a mini-showcase of your design and style. Don’t be afraid to go high! Add visual interested by playing with geometric shapes, bold prints, and unique patterns. Incorporate pieces of varying heights to keep the look aesthetically interesting. Showcase your favorite silk floral arrangement, sentimental vases, or intriguing bookends. We like to abide by the age-old wisdom of working in threes. This is a simple rule of thumb that will help you decide what to pair together and what to put somewhere else in your home. Keeping the rule of threes in mind will also help you prevent your coffee table from becoming too cluttered.
