Minimalist Style Guide

“Minimalism” is a popular buzzword these days. Depending on your personality, it could either evoke feelings of peace or dread. Even if you love stuff, as most of us do, paring down to just the essentials can be incredibly freeing and can help you enjoy the things you do have even more than before. If you are toying with the idea of simplifying your life, but don’t want to sell all you own and move into a hut, don’t worry, there is a happy medium. Here are some tips on how to achieve that.
Love it or Leave it
A big part of minimizing is to only posses what you love. Many of us have so many knick knacks and useless items that we can’t seem to part with. Maybe it’s because they were given to us, or, we feel might use them someday. This situation just creates clutter. Step one is to go through your house and ask yourself “Do I love this?” Gorgeous lamp? Yes! Coffee mug I won at a carnival? Bye bye!
Let the Need Lead
Are you guilty of buying something just because it’s on sale or it catches your eye? Me too, but this is a good way to end up with a lot of mismatched junk. Instead, only buy things that fill a need. After purging all the stuff you don’t love, make a list of holes in your decor and begin searching for those specific items.
Quality over Quantity
Another important part of having a minimalist style is to purchase quality over quantity. They may cost more initially, but buying high quality items that don’t need to be replaced all the time will save you money in the long run. Need a table or rug? Buy a high quality one that you love and will last you a long time.
