Neutral Decor: Jackie Schwartz’s Living Room
Nothing speaks more highly of the timelessness of neutral decor than our very own Jackie Schwartz’s living room. As both the owner of HIW and an interior designer, Jackie’s home is a testament not only to her design abilities but also to the subtle beauty of neutral decorating. While her living room consists primarily of grey and cream tones, her design captures your attention with artistic pops of red and bold accent pieces. Notice how a variety of patterns and prints creates interest in the space and gives the room a touch of lively character. We can’t get enough of the zebra print chairs! The delicate nailhead trim detailing each sofa is another example of how a neutral-toned piece can be interesting and unique. We’ll be showcasing even more interior design projects in upcoming blogs this season so be sure to visit our page for more updates and inspiration.
Our professional design team loves to decorate and display our pieces in ways that show off each piece’s full potential. We love how a neutral palette can enhance the mystique of a piece, preserving its integrity and really allowing the designer to play it up or down depending on the mood. The Monaco Sofa by Rowe is a perfect example of neutral design that’s fresh, clean, and crisp. Sleek lines and simple construction make this piece the ideal backdrop for gorgeous throw pillows. You can really play off its design with whatever artwork you choose to hang nearby and/or rug you choose to place underfoot. By choosing a neutral focal piece, you can then build the rest of your space around your individual taste.
Neutral Decor: Let your Personality Shine
In our showroom, we paired this beautiful sectional with the impressive Magnussen Coffee Table. Both pieces have a subdued quality to them but they also have exquisite details like the nailhead trim in the sofa and the unexpected metal element in the coffee table. Keep your space crisp and stylish by decorating with sleek lines and interesting details. With cream as the base tone, we’ve energized this space by adding metallic accents and unique wall art. You can easily achieve a similar look in your own home by starting with a focal piece like a sectional or even a rug and building your design from the piece. Add touches of your personality in accent pieces like artwork, table decor, and textiles to really make the space shine.
Neutral Decor: Keep it Interesting
When decorating with a neutral palette it’s important to add elements of interest throughout the space to keep the design fresh and engaging. Proponents of neutral design understand that decorating with a subdued foundation gives the space a timeless canvas from which exciting details like unconventional materials and abstract artwork can really shine. From bold patterns, surprising fabric choices, metallic details, and attractive finishes, you can really jazz up a neutral interior by paying attention to details. Rather than fall into the trap of trendy decorating, save yourself the headache by sticking to design aesthetic that’s timeless and play with fads by incorporating trendy accent pieces. Doing so will save you the burden of needing to redecorate as trends come and go. It’s much easier to swap out a no longer trendy piece than it is to redecorate an entire room!
