Picnic Table Decorations
Even though Father’s Day is just around the corner, we’re still having a hard time coming to terms with just how fast spring came and went! It’s hard to believe summer is knocking at our door. With that in mind, we’ve been thinking and dreaming up fun and fresh ideas that are tailored to summer living–think, outside, barbecues, swimming, and picnics. In this blog we want to focus on picnic table decorations. Just because you’re eating outdoors doesn’t mean your table has to look frumpy! You know as well as anyone that we love decorating, especially our tables. Coffee tables, end tables, side tables, nightstands, buffet tables, dining tables–you name it, we’ll decorate it!
Traditional Picnic Table Decorations
Take a second and close your eyes and picture camping with your family. Did you picture humid hair and bugs? Well, scratch that thought and picture the pièce de résistance: the picnic table. Nothing beats the timeless nostalgia that comes from a classic red-checkered table cloth…in vinyl! Throw in the plastic cutlery and a few fresh daisies and you’ll be dining amidst the ultimate in classic picnic decor. We’ve come a long way in terms of design and innovation but nothing can quite compare with the warm and inviting feeling of a classic picnic setup. We love the idea of hosting a classic picnic, with little tin cups, hotdogs, and chips. The novelty of being outdoors, one with nature, surrounded by loved ones is just too good of a feeling to pass up. Do your tender heart a favor and take a step back to “the good ol days” and have yourself a good ol’ fashioned picnic!
Modern Picnic Table Decorations
As much as we love the look of classic picnic table decor, there is something to be said for its modern rival: the trendy, Instagram-worthy picnic spread that’s taken the online photo world by storm. In today’s modern world, picnic table decoration is actually the food itself; the more authentic and rustic looking the food, the better. Picture fresh, crusted loafs of rounded puffy perfection, fruit dripping with succulent juices, and sparkling drinks that are as bubbly as they are glittery.
For a modern take on traditional picnic dining, we recommend planning the menu before the decor. The flow and feel of your picnic will stem from not only what’s being served but how it’s being served. Will you have a potluck, where each guest brings a dish to pass? Will you set up food buffet style and only have, say, drinks and bread on the picnic table? Or, will you have a more traditional sit-down, family-style meal where you prepare a meal that’s enjoyed by all?
For a simple picnic (and boy, do we love simple!), let your dishware do the talking. Choose a simple, neutral base linen for your table cloth that will act as a muted backdrop for the real stars of the show: the food and dishes! We love the eclectic look of mixing and matching place settings with various dishes, bowls, and napkins. This kind of look creates such a vibrant and interesting table spread–it’s bound to start a conversation or two!
