2016 Interior Design Trends
A simple Google or Pinterest search for design trends for the upcoming year will yield no shortage of opinions on what’s in style and what’s not. The hard part, however, is knowing which opinions to trust. We researched the most reputable sources for interior decorating and found the top three trends for 2016. A good idea with any trend is to ease into them first with a few decorations to see if they go well with your personal style before completely committing.
Go Global
One of the most commonly mentioned trends for this new year was ethnic prints and decor. From African and tribal prints to tropical patterns as advocated by The Ace of Space blog to South American styles as House Beautiful suggests worldly decor is the way to go this year. Better Homes and Gardens recommends incorporating this trend in rugs and tapestries but you can also look outside your own culture for wall decor and furniture if you prefer.
Warm It Up
Another popular style for 2016 is warm metals like gold, brass and copper. A fashionable and practical way to incorporate this trend is with lighting according to House Beautiful. The Zara pendant from the Home Interior Warehouse is the perfect combination of function and glamour. For extra warmth go with a matte finish rather than shiny metal.
Green Scene
Both Better Homes and Gardens and The Ace of Space blog recommend bringing the outdoors in this year with plants. Whether you go with decorative flowers and topiaries or something more useful like an herb garden in the kitchen, plants will breathe new life into your space in 2016.
