Best Colors for 2016
Each new year brings with it new trends and styles for every aspect of life, including colors for your home. And while it’s not always wise to jump on every fleeting fad, if one of this year’s hot colors resonates with your personal style you might want to give it a try in your house, either with paint or with some new furniture and decor.
Pastels
Pantone is well known for being an expert in the color world and every January they announce a color for that upcoming year. This year, however, they have chosen two colors, Rose Quartz, which is a dusty pink, and Serenity, a soft sky blue. Both colors are gentle pastels, which can be too feminine on their own, so they recommend pairing these soft shades with bolder dark colors for balance. If you aren’t ready to fully commit to pink or pastel blue, a small touch like this rose colored lamp is a great start.
Bright and Dark
Another authority on paint colors is Behr with their published predictions for 2016 trends. One of their recommendations is to pair bright bold colors like yellow and hot pink with dark, sophisticated hues such as deep grays and rich blues to create contrast and balance.
Soft and Warm
If you don’t favor extremes like pastels or bright and dark, another trend of soft and warm colors might be a happy medium for you. Behr recommends nature tones like mint and copper for pops of color and warm hues like gold and ivory for neutral shades. These calmer colors are great for painting entire rooms or for investment pieces like this wing chair because they don’t go out of style as quickly as some trends.
