Choosing a Couch
There comes a time in everyone’s life when cheap or hand-me-down couches won’t do anymore and you want to invest in a piece of furniture that will last and look good in your home. If that is you, there are a few things to consider before buying your dream sofa, according to houzz.com.
Location
The first thing to look at is where you want your couch to sit. What is the purpose of your sofa? Is it to watch TV or have conversations with family and friends? This will determine the location (facing the big screen or other seats). Also consider if you want your couch against a wall or doubling as a room divider.
Size
Once you decide location, you can figure out what size to buy. If you have a smaller living room you won’t want to overwhelm it with a giant sectional, but if you have the space get a couch big enough to lay down on. Also consider the depth. House Beautiful recommends getting a couch that is at least 40″ deep so it is comfortable to sit on.
Material
Another important factor is what material you would like. If you have small children or tend to be hard
on your furniture Houzz suggests leather or even an outdoor upholstery that is stain and water resistant. Of course if you aren’t worried about wear and tear there are many beautiful sofa fabrics to choose from like suede, linen and cotton.
Style and Color
Last comes the fun part, what style and color you want. If your home is more traditional and laid back opt for a classic couch but if it is modern and stylish go with the clean lines of a contemporary design. Color is also a matter of personal choice so long as it goes with your living room decor. Neutral colors go with anything while bold colors or patterns are a great way to express yourself.
If you have the room, consider a spacious sofa like this Hudson Double Left Chaise which is perfect for Saturday night entertaining as well as Sunday afternoon naps.
