Christmas Decor Year Round? Multipurpose Christmas Decor
For some people, Christmas and Christmas decor simply come too soon. With decorations, gifts, and sales making their way onto shelves in mid-October and Christmas music blaring as early as November 1st, it’s no wonder why people aren’t exactly in the holiday spirit. While some prefer to keep a clear line of separation between Thanksgiving and Christmas, we aren’t those people. For those folks who love to celebrate the Christmas season and wish it could last just a little longer, this blog is for you! We had so much fun hosting our annual Holiday Open House this year and while we were decorating, we came up with some unique ways to repurpose your Christmas decor year-round; it couldn’t be simpler!
Trays
One theme in our holiday decor this year was using a variety of trays in our Christmas decor. Trays are completely versatile, meaning you can decorate them with gorgeous Christmas bulbs one season and four leaf clovers the next. We especially love the look of decorating a mirrored tray with seasonal decorations. The reflective sheen from a mirrored tray adds just a touch of sparkle, which is perfect for Christmas, the New Year, and any season in between! We could see sprinkling candy hearts on a decorative tray for sweet and playful Valentine’s Day decor or creating a custom fall spread with cinnamon sticks, acorns, and colorful leaves. The possibilities are endless!
Berries
Few items illicit quite as powerful a feeling of Christmastime nostalgia as do bright, red Christmas berries. Whether it’s Holly, Juniper, Mistletoe or Christmas Berries, there’s something so quintessentially Christmas about red-berried foliage. One of the best parts about decorating with seasonal foliage is that you can easily make these natural beauties part of your autumn decor, making the transition to Christmas all the easier. We love using twigs, leaves, and berries in our silk floral arrangements and trust that they’ll work overtime from fall through winter. When paired with orange and yellow buds, these berried-twigs speak of a remarkable fall centerpiece. When paired with crisp green sprigs and gold or silver accents, you instantly feel a nudge for Christmas decor.
Decorative Bowls & Glasses
Decorative bowls are nothing new in the design world but you can definitely incorporate subtle variations to this traditional decor statement. This year we had so much fun filling ornate decorative bowls with elegant Christmas bulbs but you could easily swap out the holiday ornaments for decorative orbs, pine cones, jewels, beads, sand, candles–you get the point! The sky’s the limit! The great thing about using bowls as part of your home decor is that you really only have to set them out once. Swapping the contents are as easy as one, two, three. We also had a lot of fun decorating with over-sized drink glasses like the ones pictured here. These beauties are a little whimsical and add a lot of fun to your decor. We enjoy adding touches of playfulness in our spaces because life’s not meant to be taken too seriously!
Mood Lighting
We’ve said it before and we’ll say it again, nothing has the power to make or break your design more than lighting. Gone are the days of harsh overhead lighting; we’ve welcomed a much more casual approach in these modern days and now it seems the go-to lighting source is up-lighting and accent lighting. Setting the tone with lighting has an even greater impact during the holidays when it’s so easy to embrace that cozy, at-home vibe. As always, we love the flickering glow of candles and accent lighting but this year we’re especially fond of combining candles with fairy lights. Fairy lights are so sweet and delicate. They offer just the right amount of moody light to make a space feel warm and welcoming without being too overbearing. What’s better than curling up on a plush, tufted sofa with a warm throw blanket while surrounded by twinkling, flickering mood lighting? (Add in a glass of wine, of course!)
