Coastal Decor
If you love the feel of sand between your toes and long for the beach even in the dead of winter, the popular seaside decor trend might be for you. American coastal decor is characterized by a laid back, easy going feel and is therefore very simple to replicate in your own home. There are three main things to keep in mind when going coastal.
Natural Materials
There are very few manmade items at the beach, so make sure you go with natural materials in your own home to get that vibe. The Decorating Files recommends natural fibers and materials such as jute, cotton and linen. They also suggest wood such as teak, bamboo and anything weathered or whitewashed such as this beautiful Credenza.
Clean Colors
Instead of bright or dark hues, opt for soft, clean colors that you would see at the beach such as white, sand, and various shades of blue. Try a clean white duvet cover with sky blue pillows to bring a bit of the sea into your bedroom.
Beach Accessories
One of the most obvious ways to get that coastal feel in your home is with seashells, starfish and all things nautical, but while a few touches of these beach accessories are good, be careful not to go overboard. Balance the casual seaside decor with some more sophisticated pieces to keep your home from looking like a marina.
