Create a Cozy Home
As the temperature drops and we start spending more time indoors it is important to make sure your home is cozy and inviting. If you want a place that feels warm and comforting as soon as you step through the door, keep reading for some simple ways you can create the cozy home you desire from top to bottom.
Walls
Painting or decorating the walls with warm colors, especially in the bedroom and living room, helps create a space you want to curl up in for hours. Try rich colors like rust, brown and plum along with soothing neutrals like wheat, sage and cream to evoke feelings of warmth.
Windows
Switching out your normal curtains for blackout curtains in one of the colors mentioned above not only creates the illusion of warmth but actually makes your room warmer by trapping heat. Make sure they can be opened easily, however, to take advantage of the limited winter sunlight. Opening all your curtains during the day will also help your house feel brighter and more inviting.
Furniture
Fabrics create a cozy atmosphere so make sure that you layer thick blankets and comfortable pillows on couches, chairs and beds. Fabrics like flannel, chenille, and fleece are great for staying warm all winter long. Using a cushy ottoman instead of a coffee table also gives off a more homey feeling. Floors
It is common knowledge that a rug over hardwood or laminate floors helps with staying warm and cozy in the winter, but according to About Home, layering a rug on top of carpet or floor cushions on top of a rug adds an extra dose of comfort to your room. They also recommend shag rugs for making your space more inviting in cold weather.
