Uncommon Thanksgiving Tips that Will Make an Impact
It’s official! Thanksgiving 2018 is just one week away! Are you excited? If you’re like most people, you’re probably feeling a mixture of excitement and anxiety–especially if you’re hosting! Not to worry. At Home Interior Warehouse, we have all your design and decor needs covered. In this blog, we’ll walk you through our Thanksgiving-tip roundup so you can fall in love with entertaining.
Make a List
Nowadays we put a lot of emphasis on automating everything through our phones, emails, and tablets but there’s still something to be said about making a good ol’ fashioned list. If you’re hosting for the holidays this season, we recommend dividing a sheet of paper into multiple categories based on the rooms in your home: guest room, living room, dining room, kitchen, bathroom, etc. Under each category, begin jotting down what each space will require of you and your guests. For example, if you know you’re hosting 10 guests for Thanksgiving then your living room category should have a note that says “seating for 10” or something along those lines. Once you’ve filled out your categories with all those spiraling thoughts it will be time to enlist help. Delegating a room to someone who can help will ease much of the hosting burden. Plus, having everything listed on a convenient list will help your helpers pull out whatever needs to be pulled out and full and prep whatever needs doing.
Make a Statement
In our previous blog, we wrote about making a grand first impression by strategically decorating your entryway. But, your entryway isn’t the only space in your home that will be making an impression. You can easily continue that “wow” factor throughout each room in your home where guests may be congregating. Take these ideas, for example:
-Place a beautiful bouquet or flowers or a silk floral arrangement as the centerpiece on your table. Obviously, the turkey will be the real star of the show, but once the meal is over you’ll want something festive looking to liven up your space.
-Scatter fall-inspiring decor throughout your home like acorns in a glass apothecary jar, mini pumpkins, colored leaves, and berry vines. This will really make your home feel warm, inviting, and cozy.
-Speaking of cozy, don’t forget the candles! Using a few well-placed scented candles will delight guests’ sense of smell. Keeping these out of harm’s way or the reach of little hands is always a wise move. For the rest of your home, we love the look of scattering oodles of LED candles, whether alone or in a glass vase/jar, anywhere and everywhere. You can put clusters of various sized LED candles in corners, hallways, and even use them as a guide to where guests will find the restroom. This kind of moody accent lighting is perfect for cozy decor.
Set the Scene
To set the ultimate hosting scene, you will most definitely need two very important things: drinks and music! If you know your guest list will include a variety of ages, drinkers, and non-drinkers then it will be a good idea to make sure you offer a host of accommodating options. Making a large batch of holiday punch can be as easy or as complicated as you like and incorporating a hot-cocoa bar is a real crowd-pleasing favorite. In addition to drinks, you’ll want to turn on a holiday playlist to really get guests comfortable and in the feasting zone.
Thoughtful Touches
It’s no surprise that, like much of life, the little things are what matter most. Keeping this in mind while you plan and prepare for the ultimate Thanksgiving feast will help you keep your guests’ needs at the forefront of your mind. Peppering your home with thoughtful touches need not be a challenge! Take some of these ideas, for example:
Nametags are a fun way to show off your artistic abilities and personal style and will add a little extra oomph to your table. Plus, they’ll help eliminate any confusion when it comes to who sits where.
A roaring fire- Starting a wood-burning fire and inviting guests to help tend to it gets everyone in the holiday spirit and instantly adds a touch of warmth and coziness to a space. If a wood-burning fire isn’t available or no fireplace at all, there’s always the Yule Log channel!
Sharing what you’re thankful for – There’s no better day than Thanksgiving to think about what you’re most thankful for. Inviting guests to share a memorable moment from the year, something they’re thankful for, or even a funny memory will help get your guests engaged but also set the tone for gratitude.
